I recently received several concerns from residents regarding the speed of vehicles on Church Hill Road, particularly in the area near the entrance to Whitefields Road. This part of the road, which features a bend as it heads towards the Town Centre, has become a significant safety concern for both drivers and pedestrians.
In response to these concerns, I am pleased to report that I have been working closely with Council Officers to address this issue, and we have agreed on a number of immediate improvements that will be implemented to enhance safety in this area.
One of the primary measures we will be taking is to repaint the white lines at the point where the road bends. These lines will also be extended for better visibility, providing a clearer guide for drivers as they approach and navigate the bend. Additionally, “Slow” markings will be added to the road surface to alert drivers to reduce their speed as they approach this potentially hazardous area.
In conjunction with these road markings, the existing road sign will be updated to better indicate the presence of a bend. This is a crucial improvement, as the current signage does not adequately convey the sharpness of the curve, which can be particularly dangerous if drivers are unfamiliar with the road.
The signage updates are expected to take approximately eight weeks to complete, while the road markings will be treated as a priority and addressed as soon as possible.
To further address the issue of speeding in this area, traffic strips will be installed to monitor the speed and volume of vehicles traveling along Church Hill Road. This data will provide us with a clearer understanding of the traffic patterns and behaviors in this area, allowing us to make informed decisions about any additional measures that may be necessary to ensure the safety of all road users.
Preventing accidents before they happen is of paramount importance, and these steps are part of our ongoing efforts to create a safer environment for our community. I am confident that these measures will significantly improve safety along this stretch of road and reduce the risk of accidents.
I would like to thank the residents who took the time to raise their concerns, as well as the Council Officers who have worked diligently to put these solutions in place. Your input and collaboration are invaluable in making our roads safer for everyone. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any further concerns or suggestions on how we can continue to improve safety in our community.
